Ravi Shastri Wants To Have Inputs In Selection Meetings – Reports
Ravi Shastri was able to retain his position of the head coach after Cricket Advisory Committee made the confirmation in Mumbai on Friday. Shastri was expected to hold on its position and it was not at all a surprise to see the former all-rounder retain his place. The Indian head coach will serve the role till the 2021 T20I World Cup in India.
Meanwhile, it is now reported that Ravi Shastri wants to have his selection inputs in his second innings as India’s head coach. It is known that the inputs from Indian captain Virat Kohli were taken when selectors announced the team for any series or tournament.
Shastri wants a say in the selection.
A Cricket Advisory Committee member revealed that Shastri was not happy with the fact that he didn’t have a say in the team’s selection.
“Shastri wasn’t amused with the fact that he was kept out of selection meetings from quite some time where only the captain sat with the selectors to pick the team,” CAC member told India Today.
“He basically suggested the team management didn’t get the players they wanted in the middle order for the World Cup. Although the team management doesn’t have a vote in selection meetings, Shastri wants both the captain and coach’s inputs to be taken in selection meetings,” the CAC member added.
Meanwhile, India hasn’t been able to cross the semifinal stage in the major events and they would like to cross the last two hurdles. The Men in Blue had reached the semifinal of the 2015 World Cup, 2016 T20I World Cup and the recently concluded 2019 World Cup. Furthermore, they had reached the final of the Champions Trophy in 2017.
Moreover, India has had its issues in the middle order and they haven’t been able to get a permanent number 4 batsman. Consequently, there is work to be done for Shastri and Co. and it all begins with the team’s selection.
In fact, there is no denying the fact that the team has come up with some bizarre selection in the recent past. Ambati Rayudu who played consistently for the team was not given his chance in the World Cup. Moreover, there is a lot of chop and change in the final playing XI.
