ToggleRavi Shastri’s chances to extend his head coach period has improved to a larger extent. It is seen after the report suggested that the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), is not interested in having a foreign professional coach for Team India.
Earlier, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) led by Vinod Rai has cleared the CAC. Rai stated that CAC will make a final decision regarding Team India’s next head coach. Meanwhile, the committee is comprised of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy respectively.

In the recently-held meeting, the Supreme Court-appointed CoA had powered CAC to name India’s next chief coach.
With many foreign coaches already filing for the top-brass post, the CAC member had revealed that they’re not keen to go ahead with a foreign coach. Thus, Shastri is all but through to become India’s head coach for another stint.
Under Shastri’s tenure, India had recorded a historic Test series win in Australia after from sealing the ODI series on New Zealand shores. Moreover, they’re done incredibly well at home.
Besides, the uncertainty had loomed large with many believing a change of guard will allow things to settle down after meeting the requirements for the coveted post.
Dev presides CAC:
Besides, a member of the CAC has maintained that Men in Blue has done well under Shastri’s reign as a chief coach. He further continued that had there been the participation of renowned coach like Gary Kirsten, they would have looked at it.

Also, the member maintained that Shastri is likely going to enjoy the new contract for the head coach job.
“We are not too keen to bring in a foreign coach. Yes, had someone of the stature of Gary Kirsten applied, we might have given it a thought. But even then, an Indian would have always been the priority. After all, the team has also done well under an Indian head coach, so why look for a change? As things stand now, Shastri does look to be the favourite to be handed a fresh contract,” the CAC member told IANS.
BCCI official backs Shastri:
Nevertheless, an official from the BCCI has reiterated that India is going through a transition phase. The official believes that it is vital for Shastri to hold the mantle.
“Nothing permanent with a long term effect should happen at this stage of transition. Shastri and Kohli complement each other well. And it would be unfair to change half of a team that has been successful. A change in coach may disturb the equation that exists. And allows the players to have the mental space to excel,” the BCCI official said.
Also, the BCCI official feels if the change would be forced into the system than there has to be a complete change in the board’s policies. The official also stated that it would be an injustice to press for a change at this juncture.
“If a change is made at this stage, it would be a change of strategy. And planning for the next 5 years. It would be unfair to take such a decision at a stage when the stakeholders are not the ones deciding,” official further said.
Earlier, CoA chief Rai had cleared the air that CAC’s decision will be final on appointing the coach. Also, the contenders will be an interview in mid-August.
