Ravichandran Ashwin best off-spinner in the world, says Ravi Shastri
Team Director Ravi Shastri has said that Ravichandran Ashwin is the best off-spinner in the world at the moment. Ashwin picked up 20 wickets in the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka.
Ashwin has shown a lot of patience in his bowling and that has been the main difference, Shastri said. He understands his bowling better and the need of the team and this is what is helping him.
However, a year back, Ashwin was criticised of trying to do too many things and being impatient, bowling his carrom ball way too often. Things have changed a lot and has helped India’s cause.
Ravi Shastri also praised Nathan Lyon but added that Ashwin has more variations than Lyon and it makes him bet for Ashwin as the best off-spinner at the moment. He also added that the fact Ashwin dismissed Kumar Sangakkara four times on the trott speaks volumes of his form.
India managed to defeat Sri Lanka in their backyard, for the first time since 1993. Ashwin played a key role and was well supported by Amit Mishra, who picked up 15 wickets in the series. India will now play South Africa at home and spinners are bound to play a major role in the series.
