Indian premier spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja – have been overlooked by the selectors in the limited overs over wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. To be fair, both the leggies have been wicket taking options in their short career and have seised their opportunity.
Now, it is a tough prospect for the two experienced guys to force their way back into the limited overs team especially after consistent performances by Kuldeep and Chahal who has been providing Kohli with the much-needed wicket-taking options.
Team India are slated to play a full series against Sri Lanka from 22nd November with the 1st Test scheduled to be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in New Delhi. The squad for the first two Tests was announced today and India’s most prolific wicket-taker in the longest format of the game, Ravichandran Ashwin was picked in the squad after a long lay off following the Test series in Sri Lanka.
Ashwin hasn’t done anything wrong, but as an ODI bowler, he needs to improve drastically. He is a different bowler when it comes to Tests, but as far as limited-overs cricket is concerned, Kuldeep and Chahal have provided the much-needed wicket taking abilities in the middle overs.
Following the announcement of the squad, Ashwin took to his twitter handle and sarcastically took a dig at BCCI for not picking him in the ODI’s. He gave an emoticon showing “Namaskar” to thank BCCI for his selection in Tests. While there was no doubt that Ashwin would be picked for the Test series, his ouster from the limited overs team didn’t go down well with him, so the offie came up with this reply. Wonder what would be the selector’s reply.
