The rise of social media has its benefits and problems. Very recently the fake news of the death of former Sri Lanka skipper Sanath Jayasuriya spread like wildfire. However, it was later learnt that all the reports were rumours. There was no clarification on the news but getting across the piece of information, India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was concerned with the news and took to his Twitter handle to clarify whether the news was true or not.
The news of the death of Sanath Jayasuriya in a car accident in Canada has been doing the rounds. It was very surprising given the fact that it wasn’t covered by any cricketing websites across the globe. “Is the news on Sanath Jayasuriya true?? I got a news update on what’s app but see nothing here on Twitter,” Ashwin wrote.

Santha Jayasuriya himself clarified the incident and stated that it was fake news and he hasn’t travelled to Canada recently. Taking to his twitter handle he urged everyone to not spread fake news without knowing the authenticity of the news.
Please disregard fake news by malicious websites regarding my health and well being. I am in Srilanka and have not visited Canada recently. Please avoid sharing fake news,” Jayasuriya wrote.

There is certainly no doubt about the fact that Sanath Jayasuriya is one of the finest Sri Lankan all-rounders to have graced the game. He first broke into the squad as a left-arm spinner. However, with time, he improved in his batting and later took it to a different level. He is still considered one of the most feared batsmen in the world.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin is currently in England and will be plying his trade for Nottinghamshire in order to keep himself match fit for the Test series against West Indies slated to be played just after the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2019.
