Sourav Ganguly, former India skipper, has heaped praise on off-spinner turned responsible all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin after his yet another useful innings, which came at a time when Indian team needed it the most in the second Test vs England at Vizag.
After the early dismissals of Virat Kohli and Wriddhiman Saha on Day 2, hosts were in a little spot of bother before Ashwin’s 64-run stand with Jayant Yadav guided the team to 455. Ashwin scored 58 while Jayant played an important knock of 35.
Ganguly was all praise for Ashwin as he said:
“Ashwin’s batting has just got better and good to see his consistency in all conditions. His batting has gone to the next level and also needs to keep going on like this but back of the mind, he must realise that he’s a bowler first. His batting has taken off exceptionally and going to solve a lot of problem for India, Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli.
“He turns up everywhere and gets runs and all of us knew about Ravichandran Ashwin the bowler but as I said his batting has gone to a new level and we are pleasantly surprised to see that. But credit has to be given how he has gone about his job in international cricket,” he told India Today.
Ganguly also expressed his views on DRS as he said:
“India will get used to this technology and in the past also India have used the DRS well like the 2011 World Cup and the 2014 Champions Trophy. The technology has got better, the players are now using it properly and the results are showing. ICC wants it to happen so might as well embrace and India has done that,” he concluded.
