Ravindra Jadeja fined 50 percent of match fee for running on the pitch 1

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was fined 50 percent of his match fees after he was found guilty of running on the pitch on day two of the third cricket Test against New Zealand at Indore.

The offence added in the penultimate over of India’s first innings. Facing Trent Boult, Jadeja ran straight down the middle of the pitch that compelled umpire Bruce Oxenford to give a second official warning to the all-rounder. New Zealand were also awarded five runs for Jadeja’s offence.

“Jadeja was found to have breached Article 2.2.11 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘causing avoidable damage to the pitch during an international match’,” an ICC release stated.

“In accordance with Article 7.3 of the revised Code, which came into effect on 22 September, in addition to the sanction imposed for his breach of Article 2.2.11, three demerit points have been added to Jadeja’s disciplinary record,” the release added.

He also received three demerit points for the offence. As per ICC rule the demerit points which have come into effect from September 22, will remain with a player for 2 years. One more demerit point for Jadeja within 2 years will see the points being converted into two suspension points. In that case, he will have to miss a game or two.

With his team facing a tough task of saving this match, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson asked the umpires to stick to the rules to avoid these kinds of circumstances.

“In countries where the wickets deteriorate like this, the umpires have to be very decisive around how they look after the middle of the wicket. There are rules in place and they need to stick to those,” Hesson said.

Meanwhile, replying to India’s mammoth total of 557, New Zealand ended the second day on 28 without loss, still, 529 runs behind.
