Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir reckons that Ravindra Jadeja is probably the best fielder in the cricket world. Jadeja is a livewire on the field and he is brilliant in the field. The left-hander hardly ever fumbles the ball and he is always on his toes. As Jadeja is super fit, he gets to the ball quickly and he has a rocket arm.
Furthermore, Jadeja is always right on the money when it comes to hitting the stumps. The Saurashtra player can hit the bullseye when he has only one stump to aim at. Jadeja saves a lot of runs in the field and brings energy in the field.
Ravindra Jadeja is a livewire
Gambhir stated that no player covers the outfield like Jadeja. The left-hander is known to get quickly to the ball and releases it in no time. Thus, not many opposition batsmen prefer to take an extra single when Jadeja is the fielder.
Gautam Gambhir said while talking to Star Sports Cricket Connected, “I think, in world cricket, there is no better fielder than Jadeja, an overall fielder. Maybe he doesn’t field at slip and gully, but no one is better than him in throwing.
“No one covers the outfield like him. Put him at point or cover; you can get him to field anywhere. No one has a safer pair of hands than him. Ravindra Jadeja probably is the best fielder in world cricket.”
In fact, Jadeja had beaten Virat Kohli in a race to chase down the ball in an ODI against West Indies in 2018 and the video had gone viral on social media platforms. Furthermore, Kohli himself recently said that if one has to hit the stumps for his life, he would himself pick Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja has bagged 36 catches in Test matches, 58 in ODIs and 36 in the T20I format. The southpaw is in fine form in the recent past and he was able to get back in the limited-overs side. Thus, Jadeja would like to continue the good show going when he will return back to action.
