Ravindra Jadeja Spends Time With Ravi Shastri and Support Staff After One- Match Ban
Ravindra Jadeja was seen enjoying an off day having discussions with chief coach Ravi Shastri after the thumping win in the second match. He was seen being busy with Shastri and other members of the support staff while others decided to lay back and relax.
While what went through in the discussions remains unknown, it can be assumed to be related to his latest one-match ban. Jadeja was handed one match’s suspension after accumulating three demerit points due to his “dangerous throw” at Malinda Puspakumara during the 2nd Test at SSC, Colombo.
The one match ban may be a disciplinary disappointment but there was a better and bigger news which brought great consolation for Jadeja. After occupying the top position in the Test bowling charts earlier this year, toppling teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, he edged out Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan to claim the top spot in the all-rounder’s rankings in the latest ICC Test rankings.
India registered their second Test series’ win over Sri Lanka in their own backyard after notching up a victory by an innings and 53 runs in the 2nd Test at the SSC in Colombo.
India was already 1-0 up in the series after winning the first Test at Galle by 304 runs. India is now looking forward to effecting a whitewash by the winning third and the final encounter in Pallekele. If they manage to do so, the Virat Kohli led side will better its tally from the previous tour which was of 2-1 series back in 2015.
Jadeja, however, will be watching the entire action unfold from the dressing room, making was for wither chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav or left arm spinner Axar Patel who was called as a replacement as soon as the suspension was announced.
Run-ins with the law keepers
Although Jadeja has been a well-natured cricketer, he has a tumultuous past discipline-wise. In 2014, during his maiden tour of England, his clash with James Anderson at Nottingham made headlines and cost his 50 percent of the match fees.
The spinner could not avert the decision of the ban as it was brought into consideration as the result of accruing demerit points. Jadeja already had three points after he was found guilty of ‘running in and damaging the protected area of the pitch’ in the third Test against New Zealand at Indore last October.
