The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have announced that they have acquired the services of veteran batter Kedar Jadhav for the rest of the IPL 2023. He has replaced England all-rounder David Willey in the RCB squad.

David Willey had played 4 games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2023 thus far and picked 3 wickets for them. On the other hand, Kedar Jadhav had gone unsold in the IPL 2023 auction and he had joined the JioCinema Marathi language commentary team.

RCB has been hurt by the absence of some key players due to injury. They had lost the services of Reece Topley in the first match of the IPL 2023 after he separated his shoulder diving to stop the ball. Before him, RCB had lost batter Rajat Patidar as he failed to recover from a heel injury he had suffered in Ranji Trophy.

Patidar has been since sent to the UK for surgery on his heel by the BCCI with the Indian board picking up the tab for the Gujarat cricketer’s medical needs.

Kedar Jadhav Joins RCB For INR 1 Crore

With Patidar out of IPL 2023, RCB tried multiple batters at the no.3 spot like Mahipal Lomror and Shahbaz Ahmed, but no one could make an impact thus far. Kedar Jadhav might be the perfect option for the RCB team to fill that vacant spot.

Jadhav began his IPL career in 2010 with Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) against RCB, becoming one of just nine Indians to score a half-century on debut. He has played 93 matches in the IPL, scoring 1196 runs. The right-handed batter has previously represented RCB in 17 matches during the 2016-17 season.

Jadhav, who last featured in the IPL in 2021, was roped in by RCB for INR 1 crore.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday named Kedar Jadhav as replacement for David Willey for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Jadhav, who made his IPL debut in 2010, has so far played 93 IPL games and has 1196 runs against his name. The right-handed batter, who has previously represented RCB in 17 matches, was brought on board for INR 1 Crore,” IPL statement read.

Jadhav was out of limited-overs cricket since November 2021 before making a comeback with two appearances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in November 2022.
