Really Proud of Kuldeep Yadav for His Hat-Trick: Harbhajan Singh
Out of favour Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh who was India’s first bowler to bag a Test hat-trick way back in 2001 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata congratulated Kuldeep Yadav on getting a sensational hat-trick in the 2nd ODI against Australia which helped India take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. It was an exceptional effort by the young chinaman bowler, and Harbhajan feels that it will be tough for Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to directly force their way into the Playing XI.
Kuldeep dismissed Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins to bag his hat-trick. He was a bit lucky with his first wicket as it was a short delivery outside the off stump and was meant to be put away. But Wade got an inside edge which disturbed his timbers. Ashton Agar was dismissed with a full-length delivery while the delivery to Pat Cummins was the best among the lot. The ball turned sharply and took the outside edge of his bat which was brilliantly taken by MS Dhoni behind the stumps.
Speaking on Wade’s wicket, Harbhajan said, “Luck involved in Wade’s wicket, he didn’t play the ball as well as he should have.” Harbhajan also added that the hat-trick taken by Kuldeep took him back to 2001 when he became the 1st Indian bowler to bag a hat-trick.
“Wahi opposition, wahi lamha, wahi ground aur ek spinner jiska age bhi utna (The same opposition, same ground, another spinner of same age). Somehow as I was watching Kuldeep bowl, my mind travelled back to that afternoon (2001 March) at the Eden Gardens. It is a great achievement,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by PTI.
“For a young spinner, when you get a hat-trick early in your career, your confidence shoots up to a different level. This is a milestone which each and every cricketer savours for the rest of his life,” said Harbhajan, whose hat-trick during the 2001 Eden Test is a cricketing folklore in many more years to come.
“Eden Gardens never lets anyone return empty-handed. And this achievement will forever be etched in the history books,” Harbhajan added.
