I Really Want To Play Test Cricket, Says Jason Roy

England’s dashing batsman Jason Roy has a dream to play Test cricket after making his presence felt with his power-hitting in limited-overs cricket for England since past two years. The Surrey product will also be a part of the Indian Premier League’s 10th edition auction which is scheduled for February 4.

I am going to go to the auction to see if someone picks me. Last year, I didn’t as I wanted to play in the County Championship, and score some runs to try to push my claims for Test cricket,” said Jason Roy.

The 26-year-old Roy has flown to India for limited-overs series after playing four matches for Big Bash League franchise Sydney Sixers in which he has scored 92 runs.

‘Roy O’ Boy’, has been a famous phrase in BBL after Roy plucked a sensational catch off Ben Rohrer. Sydney Sixers import Roy has the knack of hitting the white ball out of the park.

The Durban-born believes that patience holds the key to succeeding. Roy also said that he would be ready to bat at any position as my team wants me to be at.

“It has always been an ambition of mine and I have been trying to do as much as I can over the past few years to further my claim. Whatever number they want me, I would be prepared to do it. I guess you just have to be patient and make sure you are putting the scores out there to be considered,” Roy remarked.

English coach Trevor Bayliss believes Roy could set the tune in the middle-order.

In India, Roy would like to deliver the best of the results for England before cementing his place in the long run.

“Halfway through last season, during the England ODIs, I got told to get my head down and score some runs. But I can’t dwell on what I have done so far. I have to keep trying to get noticed. Sure, if I could, I would pick myself in a Test match. But it is up to others to judge if I am ready,” Roy added.

Backing on his strike rate, Roy has several contributions for the national side in which one innings which include 16-ball 43 which set a record chase of 230 in 2016 T20 World Cup against South Africa.

In semi-final match against New Zealand, Roy has scored 78 runs in 44 balls out of England’s first 110 runs.

“It is obviously not the easiest thing to adapt two different games — the one-day and Twenty20 stuff against the four-day stuff — but it is something I have learned to do and do successfully, over the last couple of years,” he concluded.

In 32 ODIs, Roy has smashed 3 centuries and 5 fifties while amassing 1109 runs at an average of 38.24.

In 16 T20Is, he has scored 308 runs at an average of 19.25 which he would like to improve.
