In what could be termed as a haunting memory for a bowler throughout his/her life, and a painful turn of an event for a cricketing fraternity, as Australian player Phillip Hughes’ death was revisited again in gentleman’s game, this time around in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan, where a young batsman Zubair Ahmed breathed last after being hit by a vicious bouncer on his head, on Tuesday.
Known for his courageous batting in the domestic set-up, the 25-year-old left-handed batsman Zubair passed away after a short and rising delivery hit on his head while eventually opting for a hook shot during the club-level game on Pakistan’s Independence Day (August 14) in Mardan.
Interestingly, the young batsman was the part of Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy star left-handed batsman Fakhar Zaman’s Academy in Mardan.
The List A player’s death has sent the cricket fraternity in shock, as the world cricket governing body, ICC has already released the fresh notices regarding the safety cricketing gears to avert such tragedies in the foreseeable future.
However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also expressed the shock over the sad demise of the batsman while sharing the tragic news on its official Twitter handle, in a bid to express the solidarity with Zubair’s family.
Moreover, it is yet to be ascertained whether Zubair was wearing a helmet or not during the club match, as Pakistan media hasn’t clarified the report.

However, the Twitter handled of PCB have given an abrupt feeling that Zubair opted to bat without the safety gear which cost him his life for the daredevilry.
Earlier, the reports suggested it was first-class cricketer, Zubair Ahmed, who is known for his pyrotechnics and it holds untrue, as the deceased belongs to a remote village.
In 2014 National Twenty Cup in Karachi, the other Zubair was adjudged Man of the Match after scoring an unbeaten 111 for Quetta Bears while thrashing the Larkana Bulls bowlers all around the park.
The opening batsman Zubair smashed 15 fours and six sixes in his 77-ball triple-figure knock for Bears.
Zubair featured in four T20 games for Quetta Bears in which he averaged 57.33 after scoring 172 runs. It’s pertinent to mention, the fatal injury to Australian Test batsman Phillip Hughes, who was in induced coma after major surgery, died in the hospital after being hit by Sean Abbott’s delivery.
The left-handed batsman Hughes was hit on the grill of his helmet around his earlobe before collapsing on the ground when he was batting on 63, during the first-class competition of Sheffield Shield game in November 2014, before safety gears turned out to be the hot topic in world cricket.
In yet another fresh incident, during the Intra-squad game, explosive Australian opening batsman David Warner, who has sent a scare through the cricketing globe, was hit by Josh Hazlewood’s bouncer on his neck, on day-two of the three-day match of the pre-tour game in Darwin, as he is said to be out of danger.
Here’s is how Twittersphere has reacted to the unfortunate death of cricketer Zubair Ahmed:

Just a thought. Maybe run a safety campaign separate from/in addition to the condolence message? Try it. Promise it won't hurt.
