Record breaker Babar Azam eyes success in test cricket

After quite an impressive performance in the test series against England, Pakistan will return to the most comfortable conditions of the Middle East, as they prepare to host a jaded West Indies outfit. The first test will be an iconic day and night test, played with the pink ball under lights at Dubai. Against England, a 2-2 result was nothing short of a feat for Pakistan. The ODI series which followed might not have yielded a similar result, but it surely brought forward the talent of young batsman Babar Azam.

Azam, who led Pakistan in 2012 Under 19 World Cup, rewrote record books as he slammed three consecutive centuries against West Indies in the ODI series. Azam, who performed decently in England, was simply brilliant against West Indies, and was duly rewarded with a slot in the test side.

Ahead of the first test, the young batsman said that he was eager to find success in the longest form of the game. “I am ready to play Tests and thankful to the selectors for showing trust in me,” Babar said. “Now it is my job to give my hundred percent to the team.”Our Test team is well established and has some great players in it so to walk in this team will be an honour. “My target will be to establish myself in the Test team and take my ODI form into the five-day cricket.”

Speaking about his batting form, the young star said, “I am thankful to Allah who made me able to achieve it. I had the confidence to perform well and the hard work I had done has paid off in this series. “In the previous series against England, I was getting out in the 40s after which I analysed myself and realised that I need more concentration, which helped me a lot.”

Urging on his need to play a positive brand of cricket, Azam said, “I just improved my concentration level and the results are in front of you.”After scoring two hundreds I had an idea that not many batsmen have made it three in a row so the record was there in my mind before the third innings. I had a belief that I can do it. “But it is not that I am just after the records. I just want to play positive cricket and give my hundred percent to the team. First, it is about my team and then about records.”
