India will become the first team to play 900 One day Internationals in cricketing history. They will achieve this feat by taking on New Zealand in the first One day International at Dharamshala on 16th October.
India played their first One day international on 13th 1974 against England at Leeds. Since then India have played 899 one day international. In the 899 One day internationals they have played so far, the Indian team has won 454 and lost 399 matches. They had 7 tied matches and 39 No result.
During their ODI history Kapil Dev won India’s first World in 1983. After that the Indian team had to wait 28 long years to win a world cup. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni India won the World Cup in 2011 played in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh.
Also under the captaincy of MS Dhoni India reached the semi finals of ICC World Cup 2015 played in Australia and New Zealand. Sourav Ganguly also reached the finals of ICC World Cup 2003 played in South Africa and Kenya.
India have played most of their ODI matches against Sri Lanka playing 149 matches winning 83 out of them. In terms of most One day international matches played, Australia is at the top with 887 matches, followed by Pakistan who are third and Sri Lanka in fourth place.
Sachin Tendulkar have played the most One-day internationals for India. He has played 483 One day international matches. He has the most number of runs and centuries in international cricket.
India has won champions trophy in 2013. If India can win the champions trophy to be held in England next year, MS Dhoni will become the first captains to win major ICC trophies.
