Reports: Alastair Cook may miss his farewell Test match
Veteran England cricketer Alastair Cook called time on his career recently. The rock-solid opener is a part of the English side in the ongoing Test series against India. The cricketing fraternity has been in chorus pouring in tributes for the most successful English batsmen in Test format.
Cook failed to convert starts and hasn’t gone past a fifty in the series so far. The 5th Test will be his last game at the international level. However, there have been reports emerging that Cook may not play in his farewell Test match. His wife Alice will give berth to their third child and therefore Cook may well need to be by her side. Therefore Cook could miss the Oval encounter.
The cricket fans would be hoping to catch the sight if Cook batting for the final time. One of England’s mainstay, Cook has scored more than 12000 runs in the Test format. He led his country in 59 Tests and hasn’t missed a single Test match since ages. He played 158 Tests on a trot without skipping any.
Cook’s struggle to provide solid starts
He has been struggling with indifferent form recently. Scores of 13,0,21,29,17,17 and 12 didn’t help matters. His opening partner Keaton Jennings too, struggled to put bat to ball against the Indian bowlers. England though, wrapped up the series with a 60-run win in Southampton. Virat Kohli and his men will look to win the last game to go back with some grace and honor.
The hosts are in no mood to chop and change their squad as they have named an unchanged side for the final test match. Skipper Joe Root would be hoping to add more misery to the Indian side. A 4-1 scoreline would definitely be a fitting farewell. Cook will look to finish things on a high, after all, he started his career against India, scoring a majestic 160.
