Rishabh Pant Would Have Been Better Wicketkeeper If I Had Net Session With Him: Farokh Engineer
India’s team management and selectors are finding a combination which can give the best output in the T20 World Cup next year. Rishabh Pant has been the talk of the nation for his selection as the player has shown continues degrading performance. The upcoming series against West Indies can be the last chance for the player as his mistake can give Sanju Samson an opportunity.
Rishabh Pant is currently facing a bad time in his career. He has an unimpressive figure in the shortest format. The Delhi lad has played 23 T20Is and has scored 358 runs at an average of 19.88 and at the striking rate of 118.15. The wicketkeeper-batsman has too little impact on the team’s performance in T20I.
After his disappointing performances in the T20I series against Bangladesh, it was expected that the player would be dropped from the upcoming series against West Indies but the team management has backed the player. He has been selected in the forthcoming T20I and ODI series against Windies.
Former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer said that he had a chat with Rishabh Pant during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He said if he had given the young boy some net session, he would have been a better wicketkeeper.
“I had a chat with Rishabh Pant. He came to me at Old Trafford during the World Cup and we had a long chat. I wish I had him with me for 2-3 net sessions and he would have been much better wicket-keeper. What can a fielding coach tell Rishabh Pant about wicket-keeping?”
Rishabh Pant is now scared to hold the ball thinking in case he drops a catch – Farokh Engineer
Further Farokh Engineer added that Rishabh Pant is scared to hold the ball because of he under pressure to give the best. But Farookh has expressed that Rishabh needs to improve his technique.
“Everyone is there to criticise the young man (Pant) and there is more pressure on him. He is now scared to hold the ball thinking in case he drops a catch. He is an extremely talented wicket-keeper but his technique is flawed and gets up too soon,” he said.
