The young player Rishabh Pant is commanding the wicket-keeping for India in place of MS Dhoni. The player has shown his ability for wicketkeeping but has not proven himself as a better batsman. Since the World Cup 2019, he is being criticised for selection of shots and rushing to play big shots. Currently, the T20I batting coach of South Africa for India tour, Lance Klusener, remarked Rishabh as a phenomenal talent but agrees to give him the platform.

He is of the view that Rishabh should learn from the mistakes of others and move ahead. Though players opine to learn from owns mistake and improve, Klusener is of a different view.

“It would hard for me to pinpoint but with a phenomenal talent like that, one always tends to get a bit ahead of himself,” Klusener

“He needs to give himself time to get in and that bit of time will allow him to showcase his talent”

“What gets you ahead in international cricket is learning from others’ mistakes rather than making your own mistakes along the way and learning,” he said.

You can learn from your own mistakes but it will take a lot more time to realise – Lance Klusener

He says the procedure to learn from your mistakes takes time while learning from others can quickly improve your mistakes.

“I will tell you why. You can learn from your own mistakes but it will take a lot more time to realise, correct and become a better player using that process. If you look at mistakes others are making, you will learn quickly and thus improve fast,” said Klusener.

Lance Klusener, former South African allrounder, expressed that skill level is getting down in players because of the introduction of limited-overs games. Test cricket allows players to improve their game as the player has to bat or ball for a longer time.

“I think in the past when the focus was more on Test cricket, you had to bowl 15-overs-a-day. The more you bowled or longer you batted, you got better at it naturally,” he said.
