Rishabh Pant, the wicket-keeper batsman of Delhi Capitals, has been advised to rest for probably one week, but the team’s captain Shreyas Iyer is unsure of his date of return.
The soreness of a strained hamstring is bothering the Indian wicket-keeper who is expected to play a role in the India-Australia series after the conclusion of the IPL 2020.
Rishabh Pant Has A Hamstring Strain: Shreyas Iyer
The doctors and Delhi Capitals team management decided not to risk Rishabh Pant considering Australia series to happen shortly and sources have indicated that just a hamstring strain led to soreness and there isn’t anything to worry.
“He has a hamstring strain which has led to soreness and honestly, the team management doesn’t wish to take a chance with him. Going into the business end the team will need his firepower and why risk it when he can rest for a week and get back a 100 per cent,” Shreyas Iyer confirmed.
“There is nothing to worry about and it is just a case of the humidity taking a toll on the body,” the source said.
Rishabh Pant has scored 76 runs in 6 matches averaging 35.2 and is yet to score a half-century. Well, Ishan Kishan has scored 186, and Sanju Samson has scored 202 runs. KL Rahul is leading the highest run-scorers list in IPL 2020 with 387 runs in 7 matches averaging 64.5 with one century too.
Shreyas Iyer Has No Idea About Rishabh Pant’s Availability
Rishabh Pant was clearly in discomfort while taking a catch off Varun Aaron’s bat as Delhi Capitals ensured a win against Rajasthan Royals. He was clearly struggling in the match and hence was advised rest and did not play against Mumbai Indians which the team lost by 5 wickets.
Speaking after Sunday’s loss to MI, Iyer said: “We have no idea (on Pant’s availability), the doctor said he has to rest for a week and hope he comes back really strong.”
Delhi Capitals next play Rajasthan Royals in the 30th match at Dubai in the return leg on 14th October. They had earlier beaten them by 46 runs.
Delhi Capitals have been bothered by injury concerns as Ishant Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin were injured and missed a few games. Amit Mishra was ruled out of IPL 2020 after injuring a tendon in his ring finger of his bowling hand for which he had to undergo surgery.
