The Australian chief selector Rod Marsh has decided not to renew or extend his role as the chief selector of Australian cricket team after he retires from the post in June next year. “We can confirm that Rod Marsh has decided not to continue on in his role as national selector once his contract expires in June 2017,” a spokesman for Cricket Australia said. “At this stage, no decision has been made on a replacement.” He adds.
Rod marsh took over the charge of the chief selector in the year 2014 replacing John Iverarity from the post under whom he worked under since 2011. His first taste as the chief selector was a bitter one as the Australian team was whitewashed by Pakistan in U.A.E. soon Australian team gained form by winning the home series against India by a margin of 3-0.
A world cup victory followed soon which can be termed as the biggest achievement of Australian team under Marsh.
From then Australia team has been the dominant force in the cricketing arena in all three formats fo the game.
However, soon after that, the England team lost the grip over Ashes losing the series by a margin of 2-3 in England.
Rod marsh decision not to continue the post can be take in light as the Australian team lost the recent Test series against Sri Lanka by a margin of 3-0. A whitewash in the ODI series against South Africa followed. Australia is set to tour India later this year and one can expect a total surrender by Aussies here as well as their performance in sub-continent have always been under scanner.
Champion Trophy 2017 will likely be his last tournament as the post of chairman of selectors. The next chairman will have a brief period of 2 years to prepare the team for next World Cup.
