After getting rest in the fourth T20I match against New Zealand, Indian opener Rohit Sharma played a captain’s knock in the 5th T20I. On Sunday, he has also reached a new milestone after scoring 60 runs off 41 balls at Bay Oval.

In the fifth T20I match, Virat Kohli has been rested as Rohit made his appearance at the toss. Earlier, India went on to win the toss and opted to bat first in Mount Maunganui.

Rohit decided to sacrifice his place and give the chance to youngster Sanju Samson as the opener. Coming to bat at No.3, Rohit took the charge of the game when Samson lost his wicket early. He played a gorgeous inning which included three sixes and as many fours.

With his 60-runs knock, he has joined the elite list of becoming the 8th Indian batsman to reach the 14,000 runs mark in the international cricket. While the list is topped by the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar with 34, 357 runs. Also, Indian captain, Kohli has amassed 21,777 runs.

In the 17th over, while Rohit was running between the wicket, he got a cramp in his leg. Thus, this leads to his ouster between the game. After which, the Men in Blue also got derailed in the match. So, KL Rahul was given the duty to lead the team.

Also, after scoring a half-century, Rohit bagged another record. He overtook Kohli’s record to become the batsman to score the most number of fifty-plus scores (25). However, the Indian captain has  24 fifty-plus scores to his name in T20Is.
