Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are two powerhouses for the Indian team. Their consistent show had played a crucial role in the team’s success. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that Rohit is currently the best white-ball batsman and has the upper hand over Virat.

India’s vice-captain holds some unique records in a shorter format. He is the only player to have three double hundred in ODIs. Last year, he achieved a new feat after scoring five centuries in the same World Cup tournament. So far, he is the only cricketer to do so.

While Rohit plays a vital role as an opener, Virat occupies the crucial number 3 batting spot for the team. He is the No.1 ODI batsman in the ICC ranking. Moreover, he averages above 50 across all the formats.

Gautam, who openly keeps his views, said that it is not easy to compare the two stalwarts, but Rohit creates more impact in the white-ball cricket than the Indian captain.

“I think he is the best white-ball cricketer in the world right now. He is not the greatest overall but at the moment he is the best,” Gambhir said to Sports Tak.

“He had hit 5 World Cup hundred in England. People cannot do that in their entire careers. 3 ODI double hundreds, players do not have 3 double hundreds in Tests. There are many who could score runs, but for me white-ball cricket is all about impact. Virat Kohli will end up getting many more runs than Rohit Sharma, and Kohli is among the greatest right now, but Rohit has an edge over Kohli because of the impact he has,” Gambhir added.

“It is very difficult to compare both of them. Virat Kohli is unbelievable. His stats prove that. But when your reputation is such that when you get out after a hundred, people say he has missed out on double hundred, that speaks volumes about you,” he said.

Rohit has played 224 ODIs and scored 9115 runs at an average of 49.27. In T20Is, he has scored 2773 runs in 108 matches at an average of 32.62. Last year, the ‘Hitman’ was promoted to an opening position in Test. Earlier, he was a middle-order batsman in the most extended format. He has played 32 Test matches and scored 2141 runs.
