Rohit Sharma, Indian opener, and all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin have made notable gains in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Player Rankings after playing defining roles in a massive 317-run victory over England in the second Test that levelled the four-match series 1-1.

Rohit Sharma’s first innings score of 161, which set the platform for a series-levelling win that kept India in contention to reach the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand, has helped him gain nine places to reach 14th position, which is his best in Tests since November 2019.

Rohit Sharma Reaches 14th Position While Ravichandran Ashwin Is Now 81st In The List Of Batsmen While Rishabh Pant Is Now At Career Best 11th Position

Rohit Sharma who is at 14th among batsmen this time around attained a career-best position in October 2019, when he was ranked 10th after notching a double century against South Africa in Ranchi in Tests.

All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin’s second-innings century at his home ground in Chennai and his 5th overall has lifted him 14 places to 81st in the list of batsmen, and he remains seventh among bowlers after grabbing eight wickets in the match. He has also gained 33 rating points to reach within three points of sixth-ranked Stuart Broad and to within 21 of second-ranked Neil Wagner.

Rohit Sharma’s 7th Test hundred helped India win the 2nd Test by a mammoth 317 run margin after losing the first Test by a 227-run margin. Rohit Sharma has scored 864 runs as an opener in 13 innings averaging 66.46 and has 4 tons there including his career-best score of 212.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who contributed with unbeaten 58 in the first innings has continued his upward movement trajectory and he attained a career-best 11th position. Rishabh Pant scored 274 runs in 3 Tests in Australia averaging 68.5. He scored 91,11, unbeaten 58, and 8 in the 4 innings against England amassing 168 runs in 4 innings.

Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav returns in 50th position after picking 2 scalps on return to Test fold while left-arm spinner Axar Patel has entered the rankings in 68th place after an impressive debut that saw him take seven wickets including a five-wicket haul in the second innings.

Jack Leach Reaches 31st Position, Rahkeem Cornwall Enters Top 50 For First Time And Tamim Iqbal And Liton Das Moves Upward In Rankings

For England, left-arm spinner Jack Leach who is 2nd highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps in the ongoing series has gained six places to reach 31st position at a career-best 524 points after grabbing six wickets in the match even as several of his team-mates have slipped down the rankings including star all-rounder Ben Stokes, who has lost his top position among all-rounders.

The West Indies, who pulled off a thrilling 17-run victory over Bangladesh in Dhaka in 2nd and last Test to wrap up the two-Test series 2-0, have much to rejoice about in terms of players’ rankings. Nkrumah Bonner is in 63rd position, with scores of 90 and 38 in Dhaka helping him advance six places since his debut in the previous Test.

Off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall’s nine wickets in the match have helped him break into the top 50 for the first time. Nkrumah Bonner scored 331 runs while Rakheem Cornwall- the 140 kg spinner picked 14 scalps and was leading wicket-taker.

West Indian wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva (up 33 places to 78th) and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican (up to three places to 59th) are the other West Indies players to register upward movement. For Bangladesh, left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal has moved from 37th to 32nd spot after scoring 44 and 50 in the 2nd Test.

Keeper Liton Das who amassed 200 runs has reached 54th from 65th among batsmen. Left-arm spinner Tajiul Islam is in 22nd position after his eight wickets in the match helped him gain five places. Tajiul Islam picked 12 scalps averaging 26.58.
