Rohit Sharma and Rahane conferred with Arjuna Award

Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Rahane have been conferred with the Arjuna Award earlier today by Vijay Goel. Both of them have been consistent performers for Indian cricket team.
Rahane was named in the Arjuna Award but could pick the Arjuna because he was playing in the Indian team in West Indies. Both Rohit Sharma and Rahane are there in the squad for the three-match test series starting from 22nd September at Kanpur.
Both Rahane and Rohit Sharma have done well in international tournaments for India in the past 4 years. Rohit Sharma has been great in ODI internationals while Rahane has shown class in the longer format of the game.
Rohit Sharma and Rahane were given the Arjuna Award during a function at the JLN Stadium in Delhi. Apart from various Indian sportspersons were given this award. For this award, the winners are given a statue, ceremonial dress and cash prize of RS 5 Lakhs.
The Arjuna Award is a prestigious award which was started in 1961. It is given to winners in specific sports for great performances in their respective sports for four years. The sportspersons must have shown leadership qualities, discipline and sportsmanship.
Rohit Sharma and Rahane have done well. Rohit Sharma scored the highest individual total in ODI cricket while Rahane has shown consistent performances in test cricket outside India. Both of them are an important members of the current Indian team.
