As India’s both regular opener has recovered from injury, Prithvi Shaw’s former U-19 partner Shubhman Gill will have to face the consequences of the same. Shubhman Gill was also included in Indian squad for the New Zealand tour as the backup opener but was not given chance.
The right-hand batsman was also in the ODI squad against South Africa as Rohit Sharma was on the break and recovering from the injury.
However, he could not get the chance because the series was called off. And, now there are fewer opportunities for him.
Thus, he might have to warm the bench if he is named in the Asia Cup squad. The youngster has played only two ODIs so far and scored 16 runs. With less experience at an international platform, he can gain only a place as a reserve opener.
