Rohit Sharma becomes second Indian to score 6,000 T20 runs

Indian opening batsman and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has become the second player to enter cricket’s most exclusive 6000 runs club in Twenty20 format in India. First, Suresh Raina touched the milestone. Mumbai Indians captain achieved it during his knock on unbeaten 85 not out for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) at Pune. Rohit is also the seventh batsman overall to reach this feat.

Rohit’s fifth half-century in nine games, he hit eight boundaries and three sixes. The sixes were hit effortlessly in the mid-wicket region with the last one ending the match. Rohit is now second in run-getters list with 383 runs in nine games and three runs behind David Warner (386 runs).

Rohit’s innings helped MI beat RPS by eight wickets and in the process helped his side reach second in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 table. He is also the only player after Raina to have centuries in Tests, One-Day Internationals (ODI) and T20 Internationals (T20I).

Overall, Rohit has played 229 T20 matches so far and amassed 6031 runs at an average of 33.50 and has a strike rate of 131.36. In the ongoing tournament, Rohit has been the leading run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians. He has scored 3 tons and 42 fifties in the T20 format. Rohit was also part of the Asia Cup T20 and the T20 World Cup 2016. He did not have a good outing in the T20 World Cup but was one of India’s stars in the Asia Cup, which India won. Rohit has been in good form in the IPL 2016 and has more often than not guided his side off to a good start.
