India captain in ODIs and Tests, Rohit Sharma has shown desire to play in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which is to be hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) in June next year.

Rohit Sharma, the all-format captain of the Indian cricket team, hasn’t participated in a T20 International game since the T20 World Cup 2022 in November. Both he and senior batter Virat haven’t participated in a single short-format game for India since their humbling elimination from the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya led India in a three-match T20I series against New Zealand in November of last year, in matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in January 2023, and is presently captaining a young squad in a five-match T20I series against the West Indies without Rohit.

For the first time in America, a Franchise League T20 tournament – Major League Cricket (MLC 2023) – was organized. The title of the maiden MLC season was won by MI New York, the franchise team of Rohit Sharma-captained Mumbai Indians (MI).

Given that both Rohit and Kohli have not played T20Is for almost a year, it has been speculated that the BCCI selection panel has moved on from them towards youngsters in the shortest format of the game.

However, during a media interaction during the launch of his cricket academy in the USA, the right-handed batter said that he is looking forward to visiting the country for next year’s T20 World Cup.

Speaking at the launch of his academy in USA’s California, Rohit confirmed his availability for T20 World Cup 2024, set to be jointly hosted by USA and West Indies. He said he is looking forward to visiting the USA next year for the marquee tournament.

“More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I’m pretty sure everyone is excited. So yaa, we look forward to that,” Rohit said in a video that is going viral on the internet.
