Rohit Sharma may not be ruled out of the entire test series in Australia as a conference call was arranged to answer queries where skipper Virat Kohli, coach Ravi Shastri and Rohit Sharma himself besides chief selector Sunil Joshi were part of the call.
The conference call among the key personnel involved in the Rohit Sharma fitness fiasco, had taken place immediately after Virat Kohli’s media conference on Thursday ahead of the 1st ODI at Sydney which India lost by 66 runs after Australia scored a daunting 374.
Rohit Sharma Will Undergo Fitness Assessment On December 11
Those involved in Rohit Sharma’s fitness assessment at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore were also part of the conference call. Chief selector Sunil Joshi also joined the call, which lasted long enough for all parties to make their positions clear and have all queries answered.
It was decided that the call on Rohit Sharma going to Australia will be taken after his fitness assessment on December 11, something the BCCI said in a release. However, the office-bearer involved in organizing the call is confident that the seasoned batsman will be on the flight to Australia.
Incidentally the batsman is the second senior-most player in the Indian team after Ishant Sharma by just about a month since both of them had made their international debut in 2007. Ishant Sharma is ruled out of the test series.
Virat Kohli: Lack Of Clarity Regarding Rohit Sharma’s Unavailability
The conference call was an instant reaction of the BCCI after skipper Virat Kohli burst out saying there was no clarity and only confusion over the matter.
“Before the selection meeting, we got a mail that he is unavailable, that he has picked up an injury during the IPL. It said that the pros and cons of the injury were explained to him and he understood and he was unavailable.”
“After that he played in the IPL and we all thought he would be on that flight to Australia and we had no information on why he is not travelling with us. There has been no information, there has been a lack of clarity. We have been playing the waiting game,” Kohli had said.
However, it still does not explain why Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri did not call Rohit Sharma, who had reasonable amount of success as an opener in Tests recently. Only time will tell whether he will be available for a part of the test series as he will definitely miss some matches.
