Rohit Sharma Hailed ‘Complete Package’ Ravindra Jadeja For Outstanding Show

Rohit Sharma lauded India’s show in the recently-concluded Test series against Sri Lanka and one player (Ravindra Jadeja) in particular, whose contribution has made a huge difference in the balance of this unit.

With the tourists chasing a daunting target of 447 for victory after India declared on 303/9, their skipper Dimuth Karunaratne battled hard to bring up his 14th Test ton (107) but wickets fell regularly and they were bowled out for 208.

India secured a 2-0 clean sweep over Sri Lanka with a resounding 238-run win inside three days in the day/night Test in Bengaluru. On a surface where Sri Lanka struggled, Dimuth Karunaratne scored a masterful century, one that could well go down as one of the best hundreds scored by a visiting batter in India.

However, it was not enough as Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin combined to take eight seven wickets to floor the hosts.

Rohit Sharma: ‘Complete Package’ Ravindra Jadeja Seems To Get Better And Is Improving As Batter And Bowler

With the win, Rohit Sharma has extended his winning streak as India captain to 11 matches. Since taking over India’s captaincy full-time Rohit Sharma is yet to lose a game and even though the road ahead will be more challenging with stronger teams lined up, India would be happy to have climbed up to the fourth position in the World Test Championship points table.

India maintained a win percentage of 93.7 across formats in the 2021-22 home season. Only one team had a better win percentage in an International home season (minimum 15 matches). Australia had a 100 per cent win record in the 2000-01 home season, winning all 15 matches they played.

Skipper Rohit Sharma led India to their 15th consecutive series victory at home since losing to England in December 2012.

“It’s been a good run, and I have enjoyed it personally and as a team. We wanted to achieve a few things as a team, and we have done that. We have seen Ravindra Jadeja grow as a batter, and he seems to get better and better. He strengthens the team, and he’s also improving as a bowler. And he’s a gun fielder, so he is a complete package,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Ravindra Jadeja returned with a bang from injury in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. In the first Test at Mohali, Ravindra Jadeja finished with a match haul of nine wickets – including a five-for in the first innings – and scored a career-best 175.  In the second, he remained slightly low profile scoring 4 and 22 and grabbing one wicket.

Ravindra Jadeja was out of action since November last year after suffering an injury in the Test match against New Zealand in Kanpur and as a result, was ruled out of the Proteas tour.

Rohit Sharma Reckons Pink Ball Tests Are Challenging

As for the pink ball, this was India’s third day-night Test at home and the Men in Blue have remained unbeaten. Having said that Rohit Sharma admitted that the team is still new to it and are learning something new every day playing the pink-ball Test.

“Pink-ball Tests are challenging. We never knew what it was like to play with the pink ball in India, but we are learning to make those adjustments. The crowd just makes it more special,” added the India captain.

The Indian team had played their first Pink ball test match against Bangladesh in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Virat Kohli had made a brilliant century and became the first Indian batsman to hit a hundred in a Pink ball test cricket. The Indian team had played their 2nd Day-Night Test against Australia in Adelaide.

India lost their second Pink ball test match against Australia. India played their 3rd Day and Night test match against England in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, and won it in just 2 days before winning their 4th D/N Test against Sri Lanka.
