Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma has revealed former skipper MS Dhoni’s advice during his maiden double century against Australia in 2013. Rohit added 167 runs with MS Dhoni for the fifth wicket alliance and the former has revealed that the plan was to bat all the way as he was settled. It was the decider of the series and Rohit was finally dismissed In the final over of the innings.

However, the right-hander had done his job as he scored 209 runs off just 158 balls with the help of a dozen fours and 16 sixes. There was no stopping Rohit that day as he took the Australian bowlers to the cleaners.

Rohit Sharma has made it his habit to score ODI double centuries.

Rohit revealed that MS Dhoni asked him to play till the end as he was settled whereas the skipper added he would take the attack on the opposition. Dhoni smashed 62 runs off just 38 balls and helped India in putting a gargantuan total of 383 runs.

On the other hand, it was the start of something special for Rohit Sharma. The right-hander then made it his habit to score daddy hundreds and he is the solitary batsman to score three double centuries in the ODI format.

Rohit Sharma told Ravichandran Ashwin in Instagram live interaction,”I never thought I would score a double hundred. I just wanted to bat.. It rained a bit and them along with Shikhar, remained not out till the break. Soon Shikhar got out and Virat was run out as well. So I took over the responsibility. Suresh and I also shared a good partnership but lost Yuvi early.”

“I batted with MS Dhoni till the 48th over. During the partnership, he kept on talking and discussing things with me. He said, ‘You are the set batsman and we want you to bat till the 50th over and I will be the one who takes chances’.”

India went on to win the match by  57 runs and thus they also sealed the series by 3-2. Rohit was not only awarded the Player of the match but also got the Player of the series award. The stylish batsman scored 491 runs in six matches at an average of 122.75 and scored his runs at a strike rate of 108.63 in the series.
