Indian cricket Rohit Sharma is one of the batting pillars in the national team. However, it is a well known that the true potential of Rohit was revealed when he was made the opener of Indian team in 2013.
Prior to that, he was used in various positions across middle order. But he never found the rhythm as his role kept on changing for literally six years since his debut.
But once he was made opener in Indian team, his game went through the roof. He is arguably one of the best ODI cricketers of this generation. And he is not far from being called the best opener in the world in the last decade.
The records themselves speak for Rohit Sharma. After being made an opener, Rohit Sharma managed to score three ODI double hundreds. His highest score is way above the rest when he managed 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens.

MS Dhoni’s Shock On the Eve of South Africa’s match
The 32-year old has recently taken part in Gaurav Kappor’s show along with his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan. He revealed how MS Dhoni suddenly told him to open the innings ahead of Champions Trophy first game against South Africa.
“Champions Trophy is a long tournament and suddenly MS told me to open from the first match. I told OK and let’s see how things pan out. Even though he told and I agreed, I went into the room and wondered if I had made a blunder, if my words would backfire or not,” Rohit said.

“I didn’t want to know about the opposition and whom we are playing against. As the players get an idea about whether he’s playing or not. You get to know about it psychologically. So I was preparing myself from the prospect of not playing and what shall I do the whole day. Shall I train or something else. Therefore, I didn’t care about who the opposition was,” he added.
Although, Rohit Sharma did not know how he was going to play against South Africa, he along with Shikhar managed a century stand for the first wicket. India won the game comfortably. That tournament will be long cherished because India did not lose even a single game on their way to title.
They even won the warm up games and defeated England in the final. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma forged him name in the history books with his impressive stats after becoming an opener. As an opener, Rohit scored 6,043 runs in 122 ODI matches at an average of 56.47.
