Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has made a name for himself in the national side with his performances. He has been around the team for over a decade and has very good rapport with his teammates.
The 32-year old has recently been on the show of renowned Gaurav Kapoor along with Shikhar Dhawan. The duo have been the backbone of India’s batting lineup ever since Rohit was promoted to open in 2013.
They won India many games together and formed a formidable friendship bond both on and off the field. Both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were seen on a light mood and on high positive energy in the show ahead of World Cup.
Rohit Sharma recollected some of the most funniest sledging banters that he saw from his teammates. The first one was about his Mumbai teammate Dhawal Kulkarni. The duo were playing a practice game against Australia and Dhawal Kulkarni had an incident with Aussie wicket keeper Matthew Wade.
“A while ago, we were playing a practice match against Australia and Matthew Wade was batting. Dhawal was the bowler and he was disappointed that a lot of edges from Wade’s bat were flying away for boundaries behind the wicket. So Kulkarni started sledging him but Wade couldn’t understand what he was trying to say.
“When Wade replied by saying: ‘Pardon! What are you saying, mate? Pardon, pardon!’, a frustrated Kulkarni shot back: ‘What pardon, pardon! Go to the garden’, said Rohit Sharma who burst into laughter along with Shikhar Dhawan.
Once Rohit Sharma finished telling the tale, Shikhar Dhawan and Gaurav Kapoor were both laughing hard on this sleding incident.
Ajinkya Rahane’s Sledging Incident vs Australia
Ajinkya Rahane is one of the most consistent players in India’s test team. He made a name for himself for being calm and composed. He just gets on with his batting when he is at crease. Interesting, he was never seen provoked by a bowler on an international stage that much.
However, Rohit Sharma revealed a funny incident when Australians tried to sledge Ajinkya Rahane. The flamboyant opener told Rahane made weird faces that left Australians confused after their sledging.
“Once he was being sledged a lot by Australians while batting. when Ajju (Rahane) had enough, he just stuck his tongue out to the bowler leaving the opposition confused as to what he was doing,” Rohit added.
India are vying for their third ICC Cricket World Cup title this summer. Both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan need to play major role to help India achieve it. The team are considered one of the favorites to win the title. India will begin their tournament on June 5 against South Africa.
