Cricket is a game of numbers but it is safe to say that no number defines cricketers more than the one on the back of their jerseys. Almost every player has a special story related to the number written on the back of his jersey number. The number remains with him for the rest of his career and becomes synonymous with his identity.
And on Sunday, a fan asked India batting star Rohit Sharma the story behind his jersey number 45. India’s limited-overs vice-captain was interacting with his fans on Twitter on the occasion of Friendship Day. He held a question-answer session and one of his fans asked him:” What is the story behind your jersey number 45?”
In reply, Rohit Sharma revealed that there was no special incident or story behind his jersey number. He revealed it was his mother who selected the number for him. He that he didn’t argue with his mother over the jersey number and simply accepted the jersey number.
“There’s no such story behind number 45. It’s just that my mom asked me to take that number and I didn’t argue. She just said it will be very lucky for you so I took the number,” said Rohit Sharma.

The jersey number has indeed proved to be lucky for the India batting mainstay. At present, he is one of the best limited-overs batsmen in the game. In fact, he is regarded by many as the best in the world. He is currently the number 2 ranked ODI batsman with his teammate and captain Virat Kohli being the number one.
He is one of India’s most dependable batsmen. Last year, the right-hander starred with the bat when the Virat Kohli-led side made it to the semifinal of the World Cup. He finished the competition as the leading run-scorer with the help of a record five centuries.
