Rohit Sharma Surpasses Steve Smith’s Average In Test Championship
Rohit Sharma in the Ranchi ground hit a double century against the Proteas. It was his first double ton in the Test match and became the third Indian batsman to have a double ton in both ODI and Test matches.
The right-hand batsman hit two centuries in the first Test match of this series, in the second Test match, he got out early, but in the Ranchi ground, he hit a double century. In total, he has scored 529 runs in three Tests at an average of 132.25 from four innings.
Rohit has surpassed the average of Steve Smith in the ongoing 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship. In Ashes 2019, Smith scored 774 runs from seven innings at an average of 110.57. BJ Watling (91.50) comes next to Smith and is followed by Colin de Grandhomme (83.00) and Ajinkya Rahane (81.16).

Before this home series against South Africa, Rohit Sharma played the Test matches as the middle-order batsman but he is playing as an opener in the ongoing Test series. He is the experienced opener in the limited-overs format. Now, he has proved that he is a perfect opener in all formats. He has fulfilled the need of Test opener after KL Rahul had low performance and was not able to justify his position.
In the first Test match, he built up a strong partnership with Mayank Agarwal and set the big total for Proteas. Rohit scored his 6th Test century in the ongoing third Test match in Ranchi ground. India has already registered the victory in the three-match Test series as the team has won the first two Test matches.
India in Test Championship
India is on the top of the points table with 200 points in 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship. During the Caribbean tour, India gained 120 points after winning the two-match Test series. Against the Proteas, India has gained 80 points after winning the two-Test matches. So, in total, India is on top with 140 points ahead of New Zealand who is on No. 2.
