Senior New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor will consult an eye specialist to sort out a recurring problem in his left eye. The right-handed batsman did not come out to bat in his usual number four position during the Kiwis’ win over Pakistan in the first Test for the same reason.
This is not the first time that the 32-year-old is having a problem in his eye as around a year ago, he suffered a similar problem but went on to score a career-best 290 against Australia after a check up. New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson feels the problem has worsened in the last few months and said that the team is waiting for the report.
“Twelve months ago he had his annual check-up, got some eye drops and scored 290 in next game,” Hesson said. “In last few months,it appears to have deteriorated a little bit. We’ll get some further info from the specialist. We all need regular check-ups, and about six months ago, Ross had no issues at all. It might have come on a little bit quicker than we would like. Ross was keen to get it seen to.”
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson also confirmed Taylor’s problem and said the team management is still not sure about the right-handed batsman’s ailment.
“Ross is at the moment having a little bit of trouble with his eyes so he’s looking after those at the current point and will take all the necessary steps to make them better,” Williamson said after New Zealand’s win over Pakistan.
“At this stage, we are not 100% sure what it is. There’s a growth that’s come across a little bit. It’s been fine for a long time and been monitored for a long time. It is a gradual thing as opposed to something that’s very sudden,” he concluded.
