Ross Taylor, Trent Boult In Line To Return For Hamilton Test Against South Africa
Injured New Zealand pair Ross Taylor and Trent Boult could be fit to play the third and the final Test against South Africa, hinted batting coach Craig McMillan. Though, the former batsman has said there is no guarantee of them securing a sure shot place in playing XI as it all depends on their rehab and fitness before the game.
On Saturday, South Africa defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the Wellington Test to go 1-0 up in the series. The Kiwis would fancy the comeback of both Taylor and Boult before the crucial game in Hamilton, which begins March 25.
In the first Test at Dunedin, Taylor tore his calf while Boult suffered upper leg soreness. However, the seamer’s return is on the cards after he went through a short training session whereas, Taylor’s comeback looks a bit tentative as now.
“You can’t take players into a Test against South Africa who aren’t fully fit. I haven’t spoken to (Taylor) for a couple of days but I’m sure he’s keen. He loves playing there and he’s done well in recent times.”
Also, post the loss at Wellington, Kane Williamson was left frustrated over his side’s repetitive poor show against spin, and more disappointingly, this time it came on a track that didn’t assist spin much. He said the hosts lost their grip on the game after South Africa recovered to take first innings lead and it went bad quickly afterwards.
