RR vs RCB highlights: Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten century as Rajasthan Royals (RR) thrashed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets to extend their winning run to four games in IPL 2024. Chasing 184, RR chased down the total with five balls remaining.
RR’s chase started on a poor note as Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck by Reece Topley in the very first over of the innings. However, it was not the precursor to the things that were to follow. RCB could not capitalise on the early breakthrough as Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler quickly steadied the ship and went on to bat RR to a match-winning position.
After RR collected a modest 34 runs from the first five overs, Buttler broke the shackles by hitting Mayank Dagar for 20 runs in the final over of the powerplay. The runs started to flow after that as RR raced away to 95 for 1 after 10 overs. In the tenth over, Buttler completed his fifty off 30 balls before Samson reached his fifty in 33 balls with a six in the 11th over.
They added 148 runs for the second wicket before Mohammed Siraj dismissed Samson for 69 to give RCB a much-needed breakthrough. Riyan Parag (4) and Dhruv Jurel (2) departed cheaply as well to leave RR reeling at 164 for 4. However, Buttler and Shimron Hetmyer shared an unbeaten stand of 25 runs to take RR home. With 1 run remaining, Buttler hit a six to complete his century as well.
RR vs RCB: RCB innings
Earlier in the game, Virat Kohli’s century propelled RCB to a competitive total of 183/3 in 20 overs. After Sanju Samson opted to bowl first, Kohli and Faf du Plessis did not let RR capitalise with the new ball. They went on to share a century-plus stand for the first wicket.
At the end of the powerplay, RCB were on 53 for no loss. It was followed by two quiet overs before du Plessis broke the shackles by hitting Trent Boult for two sixes in the 9th over. In the tenth over, Kohli hit Yuzvendra Chahal for a six as RCB reached 88 for no loss at the halfway mark.
In the 11th over, Kohli hit Riyan Parag for a six to complete his fifty off 39 balls. Chahal finally gave RR the much-needed first breakthrough by dismissing du Plessis in the 14th over. The RCB captain departed after scoring 44 runs and sharing a 125-run stand with Kohli.
After the solid start, Glenn Maxwell was promoted to number three. However, the Australian’s poor run with the bat continued and he was out for just 1. Saurav Chauhan (9) could not do much with the bat either but Kohli remained till the end to take RCB to a good total. He remained unbeaten on 113 off 72 balls.
