Rs. 2,000 Crores To Be At Stake During India-Pakistan Summit Clash
India and Pakistan are currently preparing for the high-octane final of the Champions Trophy 2017 ready to be staged at the Kennington Oval, London. Fans were desperately waiting for India – Pakistan fixtures which have now become only a possibility at ICC events. Luckily, the two teams are set to face each other for the second time in a span of just two weeks.
Excitement is through the roofs. While the players are sweating it out on the field, getting themselves fully ready for the important game, the fans, on the other hand, also have been prepping up with all efforts to support their respective teams.
Such tense clashes, however, are not just for the emotional ones to enjoy, they are some other related businesses too, lucrative ones to be precise.
All thanks to technology and the UK’s friendliness to the gambling, it is estimated that around Rs 2,000 crore will be wagered on Sunday’s final between Indian and Pakistan. Numbers have been predicted by the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF).
According to the bookies, India will start as the clear favourite among the betting fanatics. But, Pakistan also isn’t too far behind in popularity.
For instance, if one bets Rs 100 on India, and Virat Kohli’s team wins, one will get back around Rs 147, according to Betfair. On the other hand, if Pakistan wins, one will earn around Rs 300.
“It has been estimated by many studies that roughly a total of Rs 2 lakh crore is wagered on all matches that India play throughout the year,” said Rolland Landers, CEO of AIGF. “And since this is the first time India and Pakistan will be meeting in the final of a cricket tournament in around 10 years, the bets are high.”
Betting is been invited not only on the outcome of the match but also on many other aspects of the game, such as 10-over score by each team or even final total scores by both.
Gambling in India is illegal but that hasn’t stopped the Indians from putting their money at stake as they can participate through UK websites using their international credit cards and e-wallets, said Landers.
