Rubel Hossain granted bail and will play in the World Cup
Bangladesh Paceman Rubel Hossain, who was in the news recently for being jailed for allegedly raping and making a false promise of marriage to a Bangladeshi actress Naznin Akter has got bail earlier today and will remain part of Bangladesh’s World Cup squad.
Being an integral part of Bangladesh’s bowling attack, Rubel’s participation in the Feb. 14-March 29 cricket extravaganza in Australia and New Zealand was in doubt after a Dhaka court denied him bail on Thursday.
Naznin had filed accused Rubel that he was allegedly in a relationship with her, which included physical intimacy. She even filed a complaint with the local Police last month.
“We think the merit of the case is not that strong and for that reason he got bail from the court. He will remain in the World Cup squad and will get all the support from the board until the World Cup” Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan told Reuters after Rubel was granted bail.
Bangladesh are hoping for a better World Cup in 2015 and will leave for the tournament on January 24.
Two days earlier deputy commissioner of Dhaka police Anisur Rahman was quoted in saying:
“The metropolitan magistrate court rejected his bail plea … He was sent to prison pending the next hearing of the case.”
