The TNPL franchise Ruby Trichy Warriors have roped in former South African player Jonty Rhodes as their mentor and brand ambassador. They were already in contact with two former international players and they inked upon Rhodes, whom they roped in for the job. The news was confirmed by franchise on social media –

Formerly known as Ruby Kanchi Warriors, the franchise which represents the city of Trichy finished as the second last placed team in the points table in the inaugural edition of the league. In the seven games they played, the Baba Indrajith led side suffered a defeat in five games out of seven they participated in. One of the two wins came in one over eliminator against Lyca Kovai Kings. This year as well, they haven’t started the tournament well. They lost their first game to Tuti Patriots by a margin of 10 wickets and were overpowered by them in all the departments.

The side will look to turn their fortunes with the presence of Rhodes on the side, whose addition to the team is a big boost for the players.
Apart from Rhodes, Muttiah Muralitharan is the other big player who is associated with a team in the league. He is a part of Thiruvallur Veerans as a mentor. The same franchise appointed Bharat Arun as their bowling coach but he had quit the job as soon as he was given the job of bowling coach of Indian cricket team on July 18.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the former India pacer LP Balaji has decided not to play in the second edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League. Though he will continue to be part of the backroom staff of Tuti Patriots.
