S. Sreesanth set to make film debut in Pooja Bhatt – Cabaret
After being banned from cricket, S. Sreesanth found his new life in showbiz. He participated in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhlajaa, had discussed his possible chance for a hindi film debut; and his name was linked to many films in several vernacular language, but finally the Kerala man is set make his acting debut in a Pooja Bhatt directed Bollywood film Cabaret.
Sreesanth is playing the role of dance mentor to a female dancer, the role is played by Richa Chadda. He got the offer of the film in the celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhlajaa.
“I met Sreesanth a day before his birthday earlier this month at his home. I knew that he would be able to play the role of a Malayali guy, who mentors a dancer.”
I cast him on my instinct. Initially we had thought of casting someone who is older but when I saw him I felt he is perfect for the role. The character is very close to his persona. I have asked him to retain his Malayali accent. Sreesanth is a natural performer, he is camera friendly and I have a gut feeling that the film will do him good,” Pooja Bhatt said.
Earlier, Sreesanth was linked to a Tamil movie. In that movie he had also signed a contract to compose music for the film and had started work on five songs. But, the project was later shelved, Malayala Manorama reported.
After BCCI ban Sreesanth, who always said that he was born for cricket, was inspired by his brother-in-law Madhu Balakrishnan to become a music composer.
After the BCCI ban for being allegedly involved in IPL spotfixing scandal, Sreesanth was denied permission to even enter the Kaloor international stadium, where he started playing cricket. However, cinema connections paved way for his entry to several international stadiums. Sreesanth was the mentor and bowling coach of Celebrity Cricket League team Telugu Warriors and the cricketer played a big role in Warriors’ title win last year. Sreesanth also shone as the host of popular celebrity reality show on a Malayalam TV channel.
