On Friday, Former Indian pace spearhead Shanthakumaran Sreesanth’s family said that Shanthakumaran Sreesanth was attacked with a knife while he was in jail after being arrested by police for his alleged participation in Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing in 2013.

He is now facing legal actions in a Delhi court. His sister’s husband Madhu Balakrishnan made this declaration to the media here.

After the temperamental speedster came back home after spending 26 days in Tihar jail in May 2013, he disclosed this, said Madhu Balakrishnan, who is a popular playback singer.

Balakrishnan said that he told them that while he was walking inside the jail territory, a known history-sheeter unexpectedly jumped before him, flourishing a very sharp knife. Sreesanth behaved and in the melee, the attacker wounded his hand and was taken away by the jail staff.

Balakrishnan said the family does not intend to turn this into any debate nor are they thinking to take this forward.

Shanthakumaran Sreesanth was arrested on charges of alleged match fixing in the IPL 2013, while playing for his team Rajasthan Royals and is out on bail.

Delhi Police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and the case has now been finished in a court in Delhi. The judgment is expected to be declared early next month. Shanthakumaran Sreesanth has already showed confidence that the court will exonerate him of the charges.
