Under the pump Protean wicket-keeper batsman, Quinton de Kock decided to contest the ICC decision to impose Level 1 charge post the stairwell gate.
The hearing is scheduled to be held in the evening. Earlier in the day, Australian vice-captain avoided suspension from Port Elizabeth Test match after the Level 2 charges imposed on him.
Cricket Australia (CA) revealed the important development via their Twitter handle. “Quinton de Kock is contesting the ICC charge from Durban with a hearing to be held tonight. More to come… #SAvAUS,” stated the latest tweet from Cricket Australia.
On the fourth day of the Durban Test, during the Tea interval, Warner and De Kock engaged in a verbal duel en route to the dressing room at Kingsmead. The leaked CCTV footage displayed an enraged Warner giving a mouthful to De Kock.
Post this incident, ICC decided to hand fines on both players involved in the altercation.
The Australian was charged with a Level 2 offence while De Kock was charged with Level 1.
Both the players were responsible for breaching of the ICC Code of Conduct for bringing the game into disrepute. A Level 2 breach means the player is fined 100 % of his match fees, whereas, Level 1 constitutes a fine of 50%.
ICC’s match referee Jeff Crowe provided time until this morning to respond to the charges out. With a Level 1 offence, De Kock accrues 1-2 demerit point, whereas, Warner will get registered with 3-4 demerit points.
Rabada registered five demerit point to his name
The other players in the two series registered with Demerit points are Rabada (5 points), du Plessis (3 points), Lyon and Tim Paine (1 point each).
According to the law, if a player accrues four demerit points in the space of 24 four months, they are suspended for one Test match or two limited-overs internationals, whichever comes first.
