Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is hopeful of playing a part in the three-match series against India in September to get himself ready for the ODI World Cup in October-November. The 34-year-old was ruled out of the South Africa series due to soreness in his ankle.
Glenn Maxwell will be a key player for Australia in the ODI World Cup later this year in India. He is one of the quickest-scoring batters against spin bowling and can demolish the opposition’s bowling attack on any given day. The Australian star is also capable of bowling in some crucial 0ff-spin in the middle overs of the game, which can come in handy for the side in India.
Speaking at the BBL overseas draft, Glenn Maxwell opened up about his preparation for the ODI World Cup in India. He revealed that they were no pressure on him to get back soon to the team. Equally, the selectors and team management are not in a hurry to rush his return to the team considering the mega-event not far away.
“I still want to play some part of that India series. But I’m not feeling any pressure on it. The selectors and the staff have been brilliant with me as well,” Glenn Maxwell said.

“They don’t want to put too much pressure on me to sort of set that date because they know they’ve got a bit of extra time before the World Cup. So instead of rushing it and probably putting myself a week or two behind, being able to give myself extra time and make sure we get through the whole tournament,” Glenn Maxwell added.
The hard-hitting all-rounder will play the role of the finisher in the team alongside Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey in the lower order and he will be hoping to make it into the final squad of the ODI World Cup in India, which could probably be his final World Cup in the 50-over format.
Even When I Went To Train That Day, I Still Felt Fine – Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell said that he was unsure of his injury just before the beginning of the T20 series against South Africa and revealed that he felt some discomfort during the training, which prompted the team management to rest him for the South Africa series. Following this, Tim David has earned his maiden call-up in the ODI format for the five-match ODI series.
“I don’t think I could have predicted how sore I was going to be once I got to South Africa, But it was one of those things. Even when I went to train that day, I still felt fine. There was nothing wrong. Something just got impinged”.

“I think one of the tendons around my ankle was a little bit inflamed, there’s a bit of swelling, so it kept on catching which meant it just gave me a bit of pain. Hopefully, the cortisone takes care of that and I can get back up and running to where I was just before I went to South Africa,” Glenn Maxwell further added
Australia has dealt with serious injury issues in recent times, with their skipper Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Ashton Agar dealing with injuries. The Baggy Greens will be hoping to have a full-strength squad for the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India.
