Hard-hitting Australian batter Tim David has earned his maiden call-up for the Australian ODI squad ahead of the all-important ICC ODI World Cup in India. The 27-year-old is highly impressive for Australia in the shorter format of the game in recent times and also has experience of playing franchise cricket around the globe.

Tim David was highly impressive for the Aussies in the T20 opener against South Africa on Wednesday, scoring 64 runs out of just 28 balls providing the much-needed impetus in the middle over of the game, which propelled him to make his strong case for the ODI team in the absence of few key players in the squad.

Speaking to the media, Aussie selector Tony Dodemaide is hopeful of Tim David taking up the opportunity to perform for the team in the 50-over format of the game following his exploits in the T20 cricket and reckons that he provides a proper power-hitting option in the team.

“Tim is already here for the T20 series which offers an opportunity to see how his game can translate to the one-day format, He will provide an extra option for us in that power role at the back end of an innings,” Tony Dodemaide said.

Uncapped Tanveer Sangha and Aaron Hardie have been thrown in as a surprise inclusion in the preliminary squad for the World Cup but Tim David was not in the team’s plans until the injuries to the key players in the  Australian team ahead of South Africa and the finisher would look to put up an impressive show when provided an opportunity in the 50-over format.

Tim David Is An Outstanding Asset For Australian Cricket – Mitchell Marsh

Australian T20 skipper Mitchell Marsh hailed Tim David for their calm and composed gameplay in the shorter format of the game, as he showed the ability to win matches for the side in any situation and believes that he is an asset for the Australian team in T20 cricket.

“The great thing about Tim is he’s very level-headed, He knows his role in T20 cricket can be inconsistent. But his ability to win us matches is why he’s in this team and we’ve got full faith in that”.

“I want him to play however he wants to play every game and I know that if he does that, he’ll win us games. He’s an outstanding asset for Australian cricket,” Mitchell Marsh said.

Mitchell Marsh has started his captaincy stint with a massive win over the Proteas and he would look to continue leading from the front going forward as Cricket Australia is looking at the Australian all-rounder as the full-time option to lead the team going into the T20 World Cup next year.
