South African speedster Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the second Test against West Indies due to “mild groin discomfort,” following South Africa’s win at Centurion. He has been kept out of the second game as a precautionary measure. He has been released from the squad and no replacement has been named for Nortje. South Africa bowling coach Charl Langeveldt was also released from the squad due to family reasons.
“Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been released, as a precaution, from the Test squad after experiencing mild groin discomfort during the first Betway Test,” CSA said in a statement.

Anrich Nortje picked 5/36 and 1/48 in the first game which the Proteas won by 87 runs. With the injury, the home side only has three fast bowlers in the squad – Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada, and Marco Jansen and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder to choose as his replacement in the playing 11.
South Africa will play West Indies in Johannesburg at the Wanderers in the second Test starting from March 8. The Proteas will then host the West Indies for a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series.
