Bangladesh middle-order batsman Sabbir Rahman was ridiculed on Twitter when he stated on Monday that he could reach the heights of team India skipper Virat Kohli in the coming years.
It was the response to the statement made by Aussie off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who said some of Rahman’s shots during the 1st innings of the 2nd Test reminded him of Virat Kohli. He also said Kohli also played an attacking brand of cricket when India toured Australia during the 2014-15 tour and Kohli scored four centuries in four Tests.
Rahman might not be an experienced campaigner in the longest format of the game, but Lyon has been impressed with his approach while batting. He doesn’t allow the bowlers to settle down and takes them on with disdain. He might not execute all his shots to perfection, but his attacking style is surely a criterion which has impressed Lyon.
Rahman was attacking Lyon with disdain, but it was Lyon who had the final laugh in the end, as Rahman was dismissed when he tried to drag a wide delivery towards the leg stump and was stumped by Matthew Wade behind the stumps.
“He’s a good player, he reminds me of Virat Kohli, and that’s a good role model to have in the subcontinent,” Lyon said after the end of the opening day’s play. “That’s his persona out there, the way he walks around the crease and the shots he has played. We find that he doesn’t really want to defend, he wants to take the game on so that is brave cricket,” Lyon added.
Undoubtedly Sabbir was overwhelmed with Lyon’s statements, and the middle order batsmen taking to his Twitter handle said that he could well match the feats of Virat Kohli in the new future. The sort of record Kohli has already set in his brief career; it will be a near impossible task for Rahman to emulate Kohli.
“I can become a batsman like Virat Kohli, everything is possible,” said Sabbir.
However, the comment didn’t go down well with many. One of them wrote that yeah everything is possible in photoshop.
