Handicap swimmer Masudur Rahman Baidya a double amputee below the knee who won the English Channel, today found a devotee in none other than Indian sporting icon cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin said that they are the original heroes and their life is like a motivation to all of them. Sachin Tendulkar, who has more than 34,000 international runs, swamped by Baidya’s attainment. Tendulkar was in Kolkata for a personal function.

Tendulkar also enquired about Baidya’s acquirement of being the only man with separated legs to cross the English Channel and channel of Gibraltar.

Sachin Tendulkar also established and Anushilan Kendra at Lalkuti in Rajarhat and Rabindra Swimming Pool and he was congratulated by the Rajarhat-Gopalpur Municipality chairman Mr. Tapas Chatterjee.

Tendulkar was felicitated with a huge coronet which contained 34,000 roses and was given a golden crown by the chairman.

Masudur Rahman Baidya of West Bengal has suit the 1st swimmer in the world. He took 4 hours 20 minutes to truimph in his battle against waves in the difficult strait of Gibraltar on 25th September, 2001. He is also the first disabled swimmer from Asia since 1977 to cross the English Channel.

Masudur , the boy from Ballavpur village of North 24 Parganas said that his organization with the city dates back to 1990 when he had come here as a cricketer. He still sees the same agony among the people here, he loves this Kolkata and have really naive memories here.

After being struck by a Goods train at the age of nine, he has surprised everybody with his iron strong resolution and shingle.

Masudur, the 45 year old said the accident took his both legs had to be cleaved and he spent one and half years in different nursing homes. His body would bend earthbound from below the waist in the water but he did not give up till he could swim. It is completely possible for humans with physical malady to do things better than normal people. But he has to be committed to his cause.
