Mahendra Singh Dhoni reached yet another milestone during the opening ODI between India and Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The former captain reached 100 international half-centuries in international cricket. While the 79 he scored was his 66th ODI fifty, Dhoni has also smashed 33 Test fifties to go with a solitary T20I fifty.
Regarded as the “God of Cricket” Sachin Tendulkar wished Dhoni on reaching yet another 100. The swashbuckling batsman who is in the last few years of his career very recently became the first wicket-keeper to reach 100 ODI stumpings going past Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara who had 99 stumpings behind his name.
Taking to his twitter handle Tendulkar wrote, “Yet another 100 for @msdhoni! This time in front of the stumps! Congratulations on a century of 50s Mahi”.
Dhoni has been in superb form of late and proved his mettle yet again during the opening ODI against Australia when India was in trouble. He supported Hardik Pandya brilliantly when he was going great guns, but after his dismissal, he took it upon him to play the big shots, and he executed quite a few of them to perfection. After making 79 of 88 deliveries he departed in the final over of James Faulkner.
The former captain smashed a couple of match-winning innings during the ODI series in Sri Lanka as well and looked in good touch. Today the scenario was a bit different, but he still came out to the crease with the team already in deep trouble but along with Pandya he played himself in, and after the former’s departure he took the onus on himself to smash some meaty blows out of the ground.
Meanwhile, rain has started playing spoilsport as India hasn’t begun off bowling as yet. The target has been revised twice but when it looked the match would start again the covers had to be brought in again as it started pouring.
