International Cricket has witnessed many duels between batters and bowlers and one such famous was between the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne. The former Indian batting legend has given innumerable no of nightmares to Warne during his playing days. However, Warne recently during a chat admitted that Tendulkar doesn’t give him nightmares anymore.
Sachin gives me nightmares
Sachin Tendulkar has got the better of Shane Warne in most of the occasions. Tendulkar has his first go against Warne during India’s 1992 tour where he left impressions of his talent with two hard-fought centuries. The battle between Tendulkar and Warne first time in India took place in 1998, and it was during this period that the contest was at its peak. During that tour, Tendulkar smacked 155 in Chennai counterattacking Warne who tried to bowl out off his pads. Later in that year during the Coca-Cola Sharjah Cup, he almost made a merry of Shane Warne hitting him for sixes at will. It was one of Sachin Tendulkar’s most magnificent ODI century against Australia. The batting legend also smashed a cracking hundred during the final of the series.
In both these innings, Sachin was dominant against Warne belting him for boundaries. After Australia’s Tour of India 1998 and the Tri-Series in Sharjah – Warne publicly admitted that he will be having nightmares of Sachin just running down the wicket and belting me back over the head for six. So much was Sachin Tendulkar’s dominance that Shane Warne has only managed to dismiss Tendulkar only one time in ODIs and three times in Tests. The former Aussie spinner in a chat with BW Businessworld noted that he doesn’t dream of Sachin Tendulkar now.
Don’t think about Sachin now
“I can promise you Sachin is not my dreams and thoughts today. I can’t recall which year it was but he played terrific Innings and they won test matches (against Australia). Probably, as a throwaway line tongue-in-cheek I said probably have nightmares about Sachin’s drive. I promise you I don’t think about Sachin in my sleep,” Warne said.
Meanwhile, Shane Warne is currently in India ahead of the Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals – he led them to the title in the debut year in 2008, have announced him as the Brand Ambassador ahead of IPL 2019. Warne would be keen to bring all his experience and help the Royals lift their second title.
